Introduction to Genetic Counseling for Physicians
The goal of genetic counseling is provide individuals and their families with a better understanding of how genetic factors contribute to genetic diseases in the families. The first day focuses on genetic counseling basics and the process of genetic counseling from evaluation of the family history to potential ethical implications. The second day focuses on genetic counseling for OB/GYN and prenatal screening. A short lecture will begin each section of the course followed by group discussions and case studies.
Obstetricians/Gyncelogists (Ob/Gyn) and Family Practioners (FP) or General Practioners (GP) physicians interested in basic concepts in genetic counseling and interested in how to conduct a genetic counseling consultation. Day 2 will be applicable for OB and FP physicians involved in women's health.
