The PubMed/HINARI workshop is limited to 40 participants. There is no application fee and all course materials (in English) will be provided for free. If you are unable to attend the entire workshop (from 8am-5pm), please do not apply for the workshop. We expect the workshop to fill up quickly, so apply early. Application closes on Wednesday, Oct 4, 2006 at 12:01am (Vietnam time) or when we meet our participant limit. You will be notified by Oct 4, 2006 whether you have been admitted to the workshop. This workshop is designed for physicians and/or scientists, but since there is a space limit, we prefer applicants from different institutions. We would like representation from a number of institutions in the Hanoi area, so we can also resolve any HINARI related issues in HINARI registered institutions and non-HINARI registered institution.
The workshop will be in English, there will be no translator, but questions can be answered in Vietnamese, if desired.
For the first 20 individuals on the wait list, we will provide a free copy of the printed course material to be picked up at a later date at the Hanoi School of Public Health library. All materials are also available online on the course website.

PubMed is a web interface enabling the users to search MEDLINE, the U.S. National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. MEDLINE contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4,800 biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 other countries. Coverage is world wide, but most records are from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Health Internetwork is a partnership between the World Health Organization and several major biomedical publishers providing registered institutions in certain developing countries free full text access to more than 3300 scientific journals. Attendees will learn the basics and some advanced techniques of searching PubMed and retrieving the full text article online through PubMed free full text filter, PubMed Central, and especially HINARI. Basic search strategies using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) will be introduced. Also, saved search strategies and automated email updates with links to full text for HINARI via MyNCBI will be introduced.
- Browse through the HINARI available journals
- Find references on a specific topic by a specific author or in a specific journal
- Apply limits such as language, age groups and publication type to search results
- Apply links to see citations to related articles
- Use LinkOut to obtain the full text via HINARI, free full text limits, and Pubmed Central
- Use PubMed Clinical Queries search filter
- Use MeSH (Medical Subject headings) Browser to identify indexing terms
- Use Single Citation Matcher to verify a reference
- Use MyNCBI to save search strategies, setup e-mail alerts for new content, display links to web resources (via LinkOut), and choose filters that group search results
